An estimated 96 million people have diabetes in the South East Asian region, 90% of whom have type 2 diabetes mellitus. Yet awareness about how to prevent and control diabetes is low. In the southern plains of Nepal, artists and researchers collaborated on a participatory project to address knowledge gaps and start conversations about diabetes in a fun and engaging way. In this photo, artists use drama with giant size props at a funfair in a public park. The protagonist has been enticed by sweet foods, and artists dressed as vegetables have been discarded. The protagonist has been overwhelmed, his big belly protruding, now unable to use the colourful dumbells and in need of insulin injections.
